Tell us a bit about your professional and personal background.

Hey, I’m Moritz Overbeck. I have been with Kigo since April 2016. I’m German, born in Düsseldorf, and moved to Barcelona in 2009. Two years after finishing high school, I started to study Dual Studies, and I worked for Lidl Spain for three years in pretty much every department they have. It was a great experience that allowed me to gain knowledge about practical approaches in the work environment and get a better overview on what keeps a company healthy. After that, I worked in a small marketing agency and then for Apple.

Hobby wise, I love to travel, get to know new people, and embrace new cultures and traditions. I’m a ski-instructor, and I also love swimming, beach volley, basketball, football, golf and mountain biking. I love books and never turn away a good read. Meeting up with good old friends has also become a passion over the years.

What is your role at Kigo?

I serve as the Head of Development for the German speaking markets. This has been a great opportunity to show my strengths, and I’m looking forward to taking on new challenges and continuing to grow as a respected member of the Kigo family.

Why do you do your job? What do you like about it?

I’m a very open-minded person and I love to be in contact with people rather than staring at a screen of numbers the whole day. That’s probably why the decision to start in sales was an easy one. Since I started at Kigo, my expectations have not only been met but exceeded. I have particularly enjoyed being able to work with so many people from different national backgrounds, on the customer side as well as the colleague side. Working in sales brings a new challenge every day, as the needs of customers always vary. Adapting your mindset to these different situations is a lot of fun, and by facing those challenges it never gets boring.

How do you approach finding places to stay when you travel? What do you look for in a rental?

I always search on the Internet, since it is the biggest data base there is, accessible within a split second.

These are my top requirements for a vacation home:

- Good location
- Privacy
- Home-like-experience
- Opportunity to live like a local
- A good price-performance ratio

I typically avoid places that aren’t professionally managed, have bad vacation rental reviews, or have no internet presence at all.

How can property owners make their vacation rentals more appealing to travellers like yourself?

Property owners can set themselves apart by giving their business a 21st century facelift. A well designed, inviting and mobile responsive website is key. Using Channel Manager allows them to branch out to new marketplaces, gain more visibility, and establish a strong reputation. Since only 10 % of all VRM’s are currently using a PMS system, this market shows great potential.

As we continue to explore the Faces of Kigo, you will meet more members of our global team working every day to create the best products in travel. Stay tuned!
